Kyoto: Part 1
We got back last night from our first trip to mainland Japan. We spent the long weekend exploring Kyoto! It was definitely an adventure. We used public transit some but mostly walked the city. The weather was absolutely perfect for us (and such a nice reprieve from Okinawa's crazy humidity). Kyoto is one of the few Japanese cities that wasn't destroyed during the war so we were able to see some beautiful ancient architecture mixed in with the modern. There are temples and shrines on practically every corner. We got there just in time to visit two really great markets. The first was an antique market at the Kitano tenman-gu shrine and the second was the Tezukuri ichi handmade market at the Kamigamo shrine.
