sweet saturday

I do love weekends. This morning I went to the Raleigh flea market for the first time. It was fun to wander around and look at all the "treasures." Afterward I headed downtown for an arts festival. There was a ton of local art, music and food. The day couldn't have been more beautiful.

dc, etc

Last week was another busy one. Wednesday I took the boys to the life and science museum in Durham. E loved the hands-on exhibits and looking at all the animals. Then on Saturday my roommate, Anne Marie, and I took a day trip to Washington, D.C. :) It was so much fun! We went because the British embassy was having an open house (AM is moving to Scotland in January). Lots of the embassies were open to visitors and had displays and samples. I loved being surrounded by so many cultures. We had lunch at an Irish pub (chicken pot pie!) then wandered around the Smithsonian.

I absolutely loved Electronic Superhighway by Nam June Paik

Washington National Cathedral... there was a wedding going on so we were able to hear the beautiful organ music!

Trohv

We went to an amazing shop called Trohv and visited Georgetown Cupcake. I can't wait to go back and spend more time in D.C.

lately

Last Friday Micah and I took the day off and went to a cupcake baking (and champagne tasting) class at the Stocked Pot cooking school in Winston-Salem. It was a lot of fun! We also walked around the beautiful Reynolda Gardens and wrapped up the day by attending Kernersville's spring folly festival (complete with "beach music" from the Embers). On Saturday I went to a fireman themed 3rd birthday party for one of my charges, Everett. The Durham fire department even showed up and let the kiddos climb around on the truck.

Besides partying ;) I've been doing some cooking/baking. I finally made the greek yogurt, blueberry and honey popsicles that I've been dying to make. They're pretty delicious and refreshing. I also made pizza today (with dough from Trader Joe's and their kalamata olive goat cheese), another batch of honey roasted carrots... and chocolate chip cookies.

This is my last week of a crazy schedule. Sarah and her husband and baby will be moving to Florida for some family time before China and I'll officially be the Parkens' only nanny. It's taken a few months to get here and I'm looking forward to starting a real routine.
