from Germany with love
I made it. The flight was very long and uncomfortable. I can't tell you how good it felt to stretch out in a warm bed last night. My jet lag is slowly but surely getting better. Yesterday I drifted through a busy first day...lunch with the familie Krueger, lots of play with Julika and Tira, a walk through town (with stops at the market and a couple of parks), and getting situated in my new room. I'm already realizing how different life is here. When I first arrived in this little town after being picked up from the airport, we met Jasmine and the girls at a market off the road. They carry groceries home in a cute little basket. At home we never wear shoes in the house, only slippers or thick wool socks. Lunch (the biggest meal of the day) is always eaten as a family. So far I've had spaghetti, pretzels with homemade strawberry and plum jam, scrambled eggs with creamed spinach and potatoes (my favorite), and sandwiches with turkey and goat cheese. Today we went to a little cafe with spaghetti ice cream. I didn't know that existed. It was topped with strawberry and coconut shavings and was surprisingly good. Oh, and the chocolate is extra delicious.
We have a busy day planned for tomorrow. It starts early in the morning with a trip to Ikea. So, I'm off to get ready for bed. Auf Wiedersehen!
